“On Thursday the 20th and 21st of February, the Hawaii State Golf Association will be here to rate our course, therefore allowing our golfers to establish their handicaps with the GHIN. Besides Sampson and myself, Loren McClurg has graciously offered his time and expertise to help in this endeavor. The team will GPS from the blue, white, gold and red tee boxes, then measure and finally play. A men’s and women’s teams will be performing this task. Once completed, we will have our rating. Thanks to Mark Miller for helping me get this started and to Loren for volunteering his time and knowledge. Also to Sampson for his excellent job of taking care of our course.
Before I go, in my last post informing you of the work on our sand traps. While mentioning the personnel helping on this project, I left out Johnny Inserra. Thanks for your valuable help Johnny,.

You may have noticed that Sampson and his volunteers (Jon, Dominique & Lexx) are restoring the sand trap on hole #9. While digging and thoroughly sifting the sand to remove any debris and roots, they found plenty of sand to create a formidable trap. This will be finished by this Thursday, January, 25th. Once complete the team will move on to holes 13 and 15, then 3, 8, 4, 5, and 6.
We have gotten good suggestions on speeding up the process, one of which is to use a rototiller. Unfortunately, this will only spread more of the debris, roots, and seeds. Using a shovel and screen will help remove all unwanted material. This will be a long process. If you would like to pitch in to help it move a little more quickly, please call the clubhouse at 808-731-5122 and ask for Sampson or Noelle.
